Best Version of AOE for single player

Looking at AOE and AOE II bundles, but want the earlier version. Don't care about the 'multi-player' stuff, just want the version I had years ago along with the assorted scenarios. Do those versions still exist? I don't have quite enough PC video oomph for the later versions.

Thanks for any advice. Love the game, tired of Civ 6 at the moment, saw the updated versions and thought I might AOE 2023 and AOE II with the DLCs.

The vanilla game was upgraded to the 2013 HD version which is perfectly fine and includes everything in the original.

The Definitive Edition is a remarkable reworking and is probably the version to get especially from a refinement perspective. The game still retains the vintage feel and has more content included

No problem! Only the Definitive Edition of the original is available and is perfectly fine if you want to give that a go but in all honesty AOE2:DE is way better to play in every respect as was the case back in the day.
