is there a way to tell which games will work in Offline Mode?
both in the store before we make a purchase, or also when using the steam app
I'm not really sure which would and wouldn't
something to do with DRM perhaps?
obviously not the online MMOs
just wondering about the single-player campaign games I bought

Things like that is not that simple anymore, some game use a tell other news about other product from games devs and workshop item checking for update.

And steam do point out, require a network connection, but then yes all single player with no modification should work in offline mode problem is ( some games use a combined singleplayer multi player functions switch even in game, so its not that simple, push a link ingame that open a browser, alot of things can be a issue. ( but for the most part it work )

And even windows work better with a no connect MS ip-adr then just be cut off or lost network or unplug cable. ( the system try to reconnect, so as you see no such thing as offline then it try to lookup things, game can get frozen and crash in such rare games.

Games are not that simple and say YES to no problem with single player games anymore.
there will always be a issue with some of them, then they check for ingame lookup.

Dont forget Offline mode, dont explan you dont use laptop in diffrent location with no internet service allowed or possible. ( so test such before you try at diffrent location. )

Skyrim, TW shogun2 was modded , and content flagged as uninstall for no network, im sure other ( cloud save ) well odc. not , but you are not the fist that say crap forgot it was not a local save.

All this is learn on work, then job allowed it, and its better not fall a sleep, im sure other can tell you more, this was years ago. nightshift work.

Every game should start in offline mode if it was started once while online.

Basically if there's no way to scan automatically then Steam should just investigate and tell us and label it. Or else let us label them as community.
"Game requirements
Games that require an active connection or use an external launcher will not work in offline mode."

No.

And you're not going to believe this, but do you know what's even more confusing? That people can buy a game-title that works in offline mode for years. And then later, they can remove that feature, and then suddenly you can no longer play that game-title offline.

that sounds messed, if you buy a title saying it's playable offline you should retain that right indefinitely, that should be ironclad when steam pays for license rights

Simple answer - boot every game once in online mode then switch to offline mode and test.

Next create a collection for offline and add the games.

Next create collection for online only and add the games.

seems wrong all of us would need to do that, maybe a collective project where we figure that out for each other, or steam just tells us

If the game is does not rely on connecting to a server, then very likely it work in offline mode example when launch the game, it safe to assume single player games to work in offline mode as well. But to truely tell if game can work offline, can either ask in game sub forum, or test it yourself.

Now for DRM free games as can play without client running, can check these places out, or ask in game forum if anyone knows, or contact dev about it. Often Unity games are DRM free.
