To check the value of your account?
Theres actually a tool on steamdb that shows you your account value all they have to do is type in your profile name and if you dont have a private profile it shows you what its worth.
I feel such pride when I check mine, NO SHAME!
Only shown when done through the Steam client though.
When using a browser it shows the profile name.
Yeah they are fishing for your actual account name which is 100% at the top of purchase history. I suppose asking for purchase history also make it seem more "legit" but whenever someone messages me telling me they reported me or need some info I tell them to kick rocks.
BUt they can't actually do anything with the name, right? I feel so dumb for letting the scam get that far even, but I am worried kinda.. I did change my password and such.
HAHA! That's what I love, its like that guy on youtube who gets called by those phone scammers trying to scam poor old people out of their money. Make them invest all that time and effort, constantly giving them wrong things or make them think you are going along with it the whole time then when they finally get frustrated and annoyed just be like GOTCHA.
Glorious days.
As long as you didn't give them your email, you use a secure computer that only you use, and you have a nice long confusing password you should be ok.
For the record NO storefront be it epic, blizzard, ubisoft, origin, or steam will ever ask for personal info, they already have it in their databases.
Yea, as I said, I feel so dumb for letting it get even that far, but it goes to show how these scams actually do work... I should know better, and yet my panic made me forgo common sense!
1300 active threads on it last time I checked.
