Windows 10, restarted PC and now Steam app is gone
Have zero idea what happened. I restarted my computer to install updates, and when I signed back on, the shortcut I had pinned to my task bar was gone. Weird, okay, but I just thought I clicked 'unpin' by accident and went to go re-add it from the program menu. Well, when I looked for it on the start menu, the Steam icon is gone and when I click on it, it says:

'The item 'Steam.exe' that this shortcut refers to has been changed or moved, so this shortcut will no longer work properly.'

It's like this when I search for the program as well. However, when I open the Steam folder and click the .exe, it works fine. All my games are still installed, Steam is still on my computer, but the shortcut is gone. What gives and is there a way to fix this other than just doing a full reinstall?

I did not change or move Steam btw. I did nothing other than just restart my computer.

Can't you just delete the existing shortcut icon and create another one? Or right-click the .exe and select Pin to Start or Pin to Taskbar?

Did you power off and reboot again?

The windows update stopped steam from starting for me too and all I had to do was restart again.

If that doesn't work, run the steam installer again it won't need to reinstall your games though it might ask what directory they are in.

You said you done an update, was this a build update, or just small update?

If it a build, then yes your stuff been moved, can thank Microsoft for that, you want to look under Windows.old folder, and move the steam folder out of there to the correct location, and that fix your problem, as shortcuts only know where it was told to look.

I don't know if this will fix your issue, but it's always worth a try!
