steam friends stuck offline

every time i startup steam for the first time in a windows session or steam does a restart because of an updare, steam friends is stuck offline. trying to set it too online simply does not work. only way i have found to get it working again, is to shutdown steam and restart it. I am sick and tired of dealing with this issue. does anyone know of a fix for this issue?

Yes there is a solution is to delete Steam browser cache, it solved my problem once.

ah. okay. thanks I will give it a shot. hopefully doing that wont become something that needs to be done repeatedly in order to keep the issue from reoccurring.

just to be clear, its the option in steam settings under web browser that i need to click, right?

well, that did not work. next time i restarted my system steam friends was stuck offline once again. any other suggestions?

yea , i got the same problem ,, Restarted - didnt work -
mine does not even connect at all even after restart , or loging off

if a spare pc is working then its your pc with addware or corrupted system or network driver or steam ports not open. do have right time zone and in sync with a time server , vpn same issue if out of sync is the issue. ( through in wifi in top of this and you have worst possible senario with to many jumps and latency across the world maybe if you are on VPN.

have win10 , all previous OS is not support anymore by MS ( win8 is soon dead also ) not support by MS anymore )


and know the diffrence Friend & chat is offline, there is a setting in there with go online then client start, so yeah you can have a cookie issue with its turn off by mistake.


win10 dont seem to have this issue, you need isp or own firewall to block traffic in the ports, or so much congested network in a region so isp router drop packet, ( test at 05:00 ) not a joke most region is at sleep and most traffic in minimum, becuasepeople are not up yet. ( only ISP planned work can effect such, most ISP will never start such before dawn. ) only emergency repair should happend there.

well, i can tell you right now it is none of that. i don't have any spare pc's to check it out on. my only other system i have is my old windows XP desktop which hasn't been turned on in like 18 years

test with other pc you know work on other network place, then to ruleout steam/iso/firerwall or figure it is your pc, simple reduce multi places where error is.


im sure you dont need millions of current steam's user that's online and they dont have a issue.

feel free ot do SFC /scannow to all other help tool app that can check pc.

and many network reset reinstall driver and option like reset winsocket.


even that is seen before and MS never change it, they said most be addware that did that.

how? steam does not support windows XP anymore. and hasn't for quite a while.
sfc only affects windows. it will not even begin to touch steam. last time i ran it, (yesterday) no errors were found. same with chkdsk. I do not had adware or malware or anything of that sort. I have Malwarebytes premium which protects my system from that stuff.

my wi-fi drivers are the were just installed (upraded by Intel DSA) this week. it's not my network connection. I have done speed tests on both my internal network speed and my internet speed. my network connection speed is over 800Mbps. my internet speed is 3Mbps. my network connection outstrips my internet speed by far.

as far as reseting the winsocket settings..... if there was a problem with them, i would see issues in other areas. and since steam friends is able to connect once i restart steam, it is't a winsocket issue.

I did try resetting windows firewall settings back to defaults, but that has not done anything.

Well we have a cross over in steam post index, i still point out not have controll over own network might be the cause , he who own that ( CPE+ / local building complex / wallplug that ISP Domain are in controll )

this is seen before at Education or other that are in controll of network, out of your hands what is allowed or not.

if you dont pay for ISP subscription, then you have no support from them and cant get help from ISP. not even sure local network administration will hear on you, if no subscription is there.

point is they can block such traffic. and give a ratts butt what user think or what. they might not want game app running, same as a in company lines , gaming not allowed. or cumuniucation into own security network.

I am the local network system administrator, I have access to the router settings page, but not the modem settings which is locked by the ISP. I have contacted my ISP in the past, and according to them, nothing is being blocked. if it was being blocked, then i would not be able to get steam friends working by restarting steam. I have also run tests to check for traffic shaping and that is not happening either (thank god). so all data is treated equally. the answer lies somewhere in the steam client i think.

latest steam beta client may have solved the issue. just restarted and issue did not occur

yeah gz with that if this is a steam fix, but still dont explan the other 22 millions steam per hour with no problem.

it could be they just may not realize they are having an issue. i have been dealing with it for quite some time, but have been putting it off. the way i realize i was having an issue was my status was stuck as offline. there is no error message and the steam client operates normally other wise. I keep my steam client open 100% of the time. but if they are only opening it when they are going to play a game and not letting steam load at login time, then the issue is probably being bypassed.

yeah but dont count on it, if you dont get mail from steam, that they have discover a bug then its highly ISP or your own faulth finding process that cause a fix, know as faulth vanish doing it, most privat company work like that, things that fix themself has never been a good company policy, this has it way with bite own butt then things works like that or keep happend that way.

nothing wrong in say problem disapear dong search for it. ( cant reproduce the error )
