Then can go to game in library, right click on game > properties > controller > change use default to enable. This will force controller settings, and test to see if it works then.
If you mess with controller mapping via Steam settings, that might be reason why controller not working.
Yeah, sadly I did all of that multiple times. Nada.

This used to fix it, because when I initially was setting up my controller, this was the issue. But now it doesn’t show any hidden controllers and also says that no controller input is detected whatsoever. It works in other games like Sonic Heroes for PC or SADX, but that’s because they’re using the direct input from the controller driver itself, not from Steam’s controller settings, if that makes sense at all. SA2B requires a specific mapping be put on a generic controller for it to work with it, and SA2B without a controller is a PAIN to control.
I’ve tried basically every solution available online other than uninstalling the gamepad driver itself via device manager, but like I said, I have no idea how to do that because of how many devices I have installed…
Did you already try it in other USB ports?
Driver stuff:
Go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers and you should see the controller. Right-click it > Properties > Hardware and you'll see the drivers. Select a driver > Properties > Change settings. In the Properties window that just opened > Driver tab, then you'll see the options to do stuff with the driver.
- Try another USB port, like the USB on the motherboard itself instead of the front case & extension adapters USB.
- Opt into Steam beta, or if already in it, opt out instead. If it works then means there maybe an issue with files.
Steam > Settings > account > button change to opt in, or out of beta.
- Run Steam as admin, and see if it shows that way, if it works that way then likely a permission issue.
- Uninstall controller driver, then reinstall controller driver, and launch Steam, see it detects it then, if it works then it a controller driver issue.
