Steam Blacklisted by Bangladesh Bank, so can't purchase using VISA card
I recently tried to purchase a game from steam only to find out that my VISA card has been declined. Upon contacting the customer care of my bank I learned that Bangladesh Bank has blacklisted Steam so there's nothing could be done.

So is it not possible to avail steam services from Bangladesh?

Just that bank, or every bank in your country?

Could use charge your PayPal account and then use that PayPal credit to buy stuff on Steam?
An extra step, but then your bank would not see where the money goes in the end.

The Central Bank in my country (Bangladesh Bank). Sadly PayPal also does not operate in here.

Looks like it's not about the number of "banks in the country", the directive seems to be from the Central Bank, the governing authority of all local banks!

That's a different issue then.

This is a thread from 3 years ago complaining about the same issue:

I'm guessing Bangladesh doesn't want to do business with Steam.

yeah, you got that right! but not a diff issue as i mentioned in the title, the central govt bank blacklisted steam, so local banks can't do anything.

and it's not about steam! the govt trying to stop spending on gaming overall here.

perks of being in a 3rd world!

It's different in that our (not your) perception of the problem is different. Originally it sounded like a local bank had a problem with Steam. That's why I asked if there was only the one bank in the country. Being the government's central bank, that changes the problem from being a local bank to the main country's bank.

yeah sorry, i guess i forgot to mention in bracket that Bangladesh Bank is the central bank. i assumed with the country name in frount would make it clear, but of course i understand it might not be so obvious!

my bank is a local one of course (although very prominent, especially for handling int'l transactions), and i didn't mention the name of my bank here cause it's irrelavant. I absolutely understand the confusion here!

Lol as our local bank cards/Dual Currency visa cards are not working from Bangladesh as our government or Bangladesh Bank blacklisted Steam so we can't buy anything from Steam using our card and as Steam gift cards are also from Steam that is also not possible.

The only option left for us is pay high price than actual dollar rate to third party vendors to get gift card from them which is very frustrating as they charge way higher than actual dollar rate which not everyone can afford
