Steam Controller Configuration / Cannot import configurations from other games anymore

For several months now I have the problem, that I cannot import configurations from other games anymore.

Usually, I install a new game (sometimes it is an imported game from GOG or Origin or so). I start the game. Use the steam button on the controller to go into the steam overlay. Then change the controller configuration. I click "x" to select a different configuration. I go to configurations from your other games. But the list is empty!

Here there should be tens or even hundreds of configurations here, but there are none.

If I go to different games, there configurations are still there.

Steam support was not very helpful.

Can anyone tell me, is this a regular error. Have others have the same problem?

Is there a workaround? (I already have kind of a workaround, it is finding the file containing the configuration and Copy it into the Template folder. But this is of course not so easy to do.)

Looks like it's been addressed in the Steam client beta:
