Wifi can be sucky even if they're good. If its a USB dongle you could try repositioning it for a better signal. USB extension cable so its close to the door will help.
For actual gaming you're better of being wired. Even if Wifi gets faster speeds it's always goiong to be susceptible to interference which can affect pings. Not an issue if streaming videos as the buffering hides ping spikes but gaming is a different matter
