What format do I need to use a SD card on steam Deck?
Hi,

I want to use a SDcard on steam deck but I don't want to format it directly into the steam deck due of the "bricks problems".
a lot of users complain about thier SDcard bricked by formating them directly in the Steam Deck.

Like here for instance : https://steamcommunity.com/app/1675200/discussions/0/5135803832918716625/

Most of the time it happend durring a second formating but I don't want to give hostage to fortune and I want to format from My Macbook M1. The problem is that I d'ont know what format is used by the Steam Deck.

Is someone able to tell me so?

Best regard

Thank you. I'm not sure to be able to format in ext4 with my macbook M1. I'm going to look for a software doing this.

Doesn't seem like Mac OS supports formatting in Ext4.

Yes Cathulhu it what I though :-/

Anyway I formated the SDcard using extFS for Mac by Paragon Software.
I fortunaly already have this software because I had a NASS to manage time ago.

I formated in ext4 but no "case format" was asked.
Now My card is view as "ext4" in my mac and in the Steam Deck "linux office" but the Steam Deck Software" seems to not able to sse my card.

I can't install a game inside it.

Do I miss something?

My Sandisk 512 would not even read...so couldn't format..., I used my Mac to format to FAT - MS-DOS. Then Steam Deck formatted it...no issues.
