Looking for Vertical Scroller Shooters

Anyone know of any that I could get on steam? Or at least some good ones out of steam. I'd prefer something I could get on steam but I kinda doubt there are any so any suggestions will be fine.

When I use to play a lot on Funorb so long ago, I played a lot of Star Cannon [www.funorb.com] if anyone knows that website/game. That's basically what I'm looking for, I just don't feel like having to deal with Java again.

No. I'm looking for what the title says. By that I mean you are vertically scrolling through some kind of battle field (sometimes in space) shooting the enemies that are coming at you either from the top of the screen or the side of the screen. With most of these types of games that I've seen, you also gain upgrades through each mission so that you can shoot more bullets or gain plasma beams or rocket launchers to make it easier to take out crouds of enemies or just really beefy enemies.

Bullet Hell is a type of shooter (either vertical or horizontal) where there are so many bullets that they nearly cover the whole screen. You didn't specify in your post and since this is a very popular genre of the shooter type I was just wondering. There are tons of bullet hell games on Steam, many of which are extremely challenging.

If interested, use the "bullet hell" tag when searching.

Well I didn't really think to put that 'cause I was looking for something pretty specific but I suppose I could broden my horizons a little bit. Thanks for the suggestion. I'll definately check that out. Looks cool.
