What Does the (Banned) Mean In Forums?

I have seen people in forums that have (Banned) beside their name. What Does this mean? Can they still participate in discussions? Is it forever? And how do you get (Banned)?

You get banned when you are banned from discussions. This can be only a specific forum, or even all of it.
They can be temporary or permanent, depending on what the user did to receive the ban.

Being banned is a bad thing. It means you broke the steam rules. The ban lasts 7 days to forever. Which means you can no longer post on any fourm that your banned on.
