Game Installed but Steam wants to download the whole thing again!!
Hi

I purchased Divinity Original sin 2, due to a slow internet connection I downloaded the game onto a USB at my friends house (on my account) then copied the files into the steamapps/common folder, I can run the game but not through steam itself! I'm even getting achievements coming up in steam though when I try to load the game Steam tries to download the full game! I've been through the FAQs and had a ticket open with steam-support and nothing seems to help. I simply cannot download 30+gb on the connection I have, can I do anything to make Steam understand the full game is downloaded/running on my computer?

Thank you Si-Fi, though I honestly don't know what to do with the file to rectify things.
Did you manage to get it to work?

You didn't make a mistake although there we're options, in which you chose to manually copy over the files to a USB, but keep in mind that the manifest files are very important so provided you did get them from your friend, it would have most likely resolved.

If you didn't make the move in adding the manifest file with the game's files, Steam would have generated a new manifest file hence it couldn't detect that the files we're already obtained.

Hope this helps.

You would most likely be missing the original appmanifest_435150.acf or appmanifest_230230.acf file/s which is responsible for detailing the necessary files required which acts like a logbook.

If your friend still has it installed, you could acquire the required files from the steamapps folder.

Next time, use Steam's own backup function.

The game was installed onto the USB stick, I can't use the backup function while steam wants to download the whole game again.

That's why I said "next time". Next time, donwload the game on another computer, back it up onto the USB stick, restore on your own computer.

Then you did not have the acf file like Si-Fi said.

Likewise, retrieve one of those files as i mentioned and it should fix itself. Perhaps get your friend to e-mail the file over.

ReBoot sorry for the misunderstanding of your comment (I'll do that next time, thank you)
I do have both appmanifest.acf files, do they need to be located somewhere specific? they are currently located in Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps. Or do I need to edit them?

Which version do you have? Definitive or Classic?

435150 would be the correct one.

Satoru the issue isn't running the game itself but rather having steam play nicely with the game, I'd like to be able to update the game and get DLC as and when I can.
