Half Life Source Textures
I was recently looking to play a multiplayer version of Half Life 1 with my friends. Both of them own the original version of Half Life, but the maps we're using for Garry's mod require half life source. I can't gift the game because they feel that it's wrong for me to waste money on this, and simply won't accept it, but they also can't buy the game currently.

I was wondering, is there any way we could download a texture pack of the game (without the actual half life game itself) and use that?

Thank you. Sorry if this should be in another discussion page, I'm not exactly sure where to put this.

No, because that would literally be stealing.

Not the game, the assets.

.... The assets are *part of the game that counts as the game*, so...

Like all Gmod resources, if you want to use them, technically and legally speaking you MUST own the game. Most gmod resources that are game rips are absolutely 'very dark grey area' illegal items, but most publishers and developers know better than to try and smack down small fry people making gmod servers. They're not making money off it.

But since the HL source files ARE part of a product that is a paid-game, you do have to own it, if you want to use it.

If your friends absolutely refuse to accept free games then it doesn't sound like they're really interested in playing Half-Life. Heck, if I didn't already own HL:S, I would accept a free copy of it.

As HL:S assets would be considered custom content, and as with any custom content, the level designer, should he choose to, can just pack all of that within the BSP map file using a pack lump editor such as VIDE or Pakrat. This essentially nullifies the argument that taking HL:S content when not owning the game is theft.
If you wanted to play Half-Life 1 as co-op. This already includes the campaign + Opposing Force campaign. https://store.steampowered.com/app/225840/Sven_Coop/
