Can i download games, burn them into blu ray, and then play them ?
I'had like to store games from the humble bundle trove because they get removed sometimes (looking at you Alan Wake american nigthmare), so I was thinking of burn'in 'em in blu ray disc.
But once I've done that, can i play directly from the disc, or will i have to copy them into my drive to play them ? (I'd like to avoid that because my hd is almost full)
any advice pls ?

Hi,

However you get your game to use on Steam, whether it directly via the Steam app or via third party, the game will be added to your library and it will remain there, even if a game is removed from sale on Steam in the future.

You shouldn't need to back up any of your games up in case they are removed. For example, a few weeks ago, Lego Lord of the Rings was removed for sale from Steam due to expired licenses. I had the game in my library and was still able to re-download it.

You can back up your games to avoid downloading them again, if your connection is slow or your library is very large. However, you will only be able to use them on the account you originally purchased/redeemed them. And they must be run from a hard drive, they won't play directly from a disc.

Yes, Ps4 games use blue ray discs because they can be scratched and still work.
bd are more scratch resistant, but large/deep/lots of small scratches can still make areas unreadable

as for the op, you can backup them to a external drive or bd, but will need to move them to a steamapps location to play them again
you can store the install files on the disk no problem.

so you pop in your dvd with your game, click the installer, and install it to your hardrive

No. A PS3 doesn't even run PC games, so you being unable to replicate the copy protection doesn't even matter...

But if Steam crashes or shuts down, will you be able to play the games?

It would really depend on the specifics. Steam isn't going to randomly shut down. It makes billions and is one of the profitable companies per employee on the planet.

And it's not going to "crash" and what erase all user data and backups? Not likely. And it's not like it's all running on one server, so the entire infrastructure is going to implode simultaneously? Even less likely.

You need context. Becuase while anything might be possible, not everything is plausible.

In a circumstance where Steam did shutdown, a lot of things would have to go wrong for a very long time. It would be very visible. And that's not what's happening today.
