Need to launch a game from a different folder
So I'm trying to move a game to a different folder outside of program files for modding reasons, but I can't figure out how to launch it from this folder. All the files are already moved over, attempting to run the game just installs it in the default folder, and the main problem is that in order to install to a different folder through steam, it requires that the new folder be on a different drive, but I only have one drive, so I can't create a new folder for steam to download (or run) from. I don't care if I have to move all of my games, but I just want to be able to run one from a different folder than the default.

Mod it in place. There's no reason why you HAVE to move games outside to modify them. If anything, it's a question of access privileges, not location and you can solve access privileges.
Absolutely never ever mod it in place, because Steam can silently do update of the game and/or Workshop mods and that will break your working modded game and/or savegames. There is no option "not to update". I got burned several times from that in different games.

The only solution I found was to move the game, create .bat "start (new directory .exe), pause", convert .bat to .exe, rename this .exe into game executable file and place it in old folder.
Obviously this is very bothersome, so I was hoping to find better answer by looking up this thread.

Alternatively, you can use DRM free game, then transfer any new screenshots into steam folder with SteamScree and manually emulate playtime separately by running fake exe with something like Steam Achievement Manager or Archi Steam Farm.

Both options suck.

P.S. I looked up a way to do that by adding desired .exe filepath into launch options but it doesn't work for me.

Steam only support 1 steam folder per driver letter, they could change this someday but i doubt it, so No you cant move steam game folder to other folder its steam files system, you need to edit vdf files for that afaik, and its not supported by steam.

also a defrag issue, now you need to be a harddisk master for know the issue with multi game folders.

NO we will not, fiddel with screenshort made outside steam product is seen as tamper with content, not made with steam, and there are copyrights and other broadcast issue with it today.
share things with you dont have rights for even. ( what steam will do about it i dont know, dont forget its other that report you then steam might HAVE TO DEAL WITH YOU, )

imo stick to what you have bought on steam stay with steam, for me its look like you try make a loophole in how to do, even that is not allowed to explan on steam.

read the steam rules, we are not steam police here.

This thread was quite old before the recent post, so we're locking it to prevent confusion.
