Support can not change account login names.
https://help.steampowered.com/en/faqs/view/2816-BE67-5B69-0FEC
Stories you read are people that made entirely new accounts with their new login name.
account names cannot be changed and there have been no signs from valve that they are going to try and make it possible. they messed up the database when they created it and the account name is the key field for the database. the risk vs reward is not there (risk - everything on the account permanently goes away) for them to try and make the name changable.
not sure why you think the forum moderators have any power or say in the matter, they are steam users like the rest of use, they only difference is they have the power to moderate the forums, nothing more.
Accountnames can't be changed, don't believe the stories on the internet regarding that. They even have a support article about the fact that it cannot be changed: https://help.steampowered.com/en/faqs/view/2816-BE67-5B69-0FEC
It's currently not possible to change your login name.
To my knowledge there is no known cases where steam have changed the login name for a user. Post links if you know of any.
The best solution I can offer is to have steam log you in automatically on startup. Then you will never have to fill your login name.
Login names are hard coded, so there is absolutely no way to change that other than to create a new account. And I doubt, it is that bad.
You seem very mislead in life. That quote is a good example. You were most likely, trolled.
You can change your user profile name.
But your account name is unchangeable once decided upon.
Not someone he or she knows, the OP used for his account name his or her former legal name, and then changed the latter after, and seems he or she does not want to see or be reminded of of the former name.
