This can be because your OS does not load the type of format.
What OS do you use?
Did you switch OS sense then?
I don't think it's an OS issue. Using Windows 10, hasn't changed.
Tried FF, Chrome, Steam client, they all show corrupted images as 0.000kb with their file name.
Not all pictures are properly loaded inside the "Edit guide contents" area. I see old/new images are working properly, but the other 40% are just blank.
As far as I personally know though, the issue seems to be on Steam's end when storing the images on their servers; things just randomly get corrupted and that's it.
Modifying the image works just as well as uploading the exact same one under another name; you can just add like a single pixel with an alpha value of 1 and Steam will update the image, restoring it to its normal form.
Pictures seem to get randomly corrupted even after months of them not doing so, so to remedy this I created a folder with the exact copies of all images in my guides, and every time a large chunk of the images goes corrupt I just delete all images from the guide and reupload all of them at once.
I've also noticed that uploading pictures in large batches means that the entire batch will corrupt; I remember uploading like 14 or so headers for a few sections and they all got corrupted at once a few days after. Probably related to how Steam stores images on their servers.
Steam somehow manages to still spit out code 29 when you upload images you previously deleted, assuming you didn't change any of their parameters, so to get around that just go to the global folder, select all of the pictures with CTRL+A, select Rename, and just input a placeholder name like "image". This will rename all images in the global folder to image, image (1), image (2), etc., and this SHOULD get around Steam's glitchy-ass picture system (I'm saying 'should' because this is still a concept; I didn't get the chance to actually implement this method yet, but it should work)
Also, removing images from guides can be really broken at times, especially when removing them in large amounts. Before uploading anything after deleting images, reload the page once or twice to make sure that everything that should be deleted has been deleted.
I did four guides with a lot of pictures and now half of them are "0.000kb".
I don't know what to do. Creating these guides and all screenshots took me dozens of hours and now they are pointless without references.
I try to upload again the same picture I got "Error 29". I could spend HOURS renaming every picture updating the "newest" ones but what if it happens again?
I don't know how to solve it.
Then you're going to have to delete every picture in your guide and reupload them, which unfortunately takes time but AFAIK there's no better way to do this.
I trusted Steam and deleted all my folders from my pc once the guides seemed okay as I checked on them regularily at first. So the only way to replace the image is to replay all these games (on a different account) to collect them again.
'X' out the missing image. Also, delete the 'source' info for that image (in your guide.) You'll now be able to upload without any problems and re-add it to your guide. Hope this helps.
