'Unread Chat Message' green icon never goes away...

This has been bugged for what I feel like is over 2 years now. Is it just never going to be patched?

If you're in a game, and someone uses Steam messages to talk to you (shift+tab) - but then you go back to your Steam app on desktop, the green 'unread messages' icon is lit up at the top. Opening and closing the message window doesn't clear it. Replying doesn't clear it. Restarting Steam doesn't clear it. It only seems to go away after restarting the PC.

Just a little bug, but it annoys me to no end. I want that green notification to be gone, since I don't in fact have any unread messages...

Put the "Unread Chat Message" into the search box of the forum and check the older threads for possible solutions.

Thank you, but as noted I've been dealing with this for years now, so yes I have searched through Steam and Google and Reddit for answers. It's a bug, one that has not yet been addressed.

Most of what I see in Steam Discussions is a whole bunch of threads having the same issue, all the way back to 2019.

Internet's fine, yes I'm logged into chat, yes I'm logged into the friends list, I've restarted the game(s), restarted / logged out of Steam... - regardless, I shouldn't have to troubleshoot every single time this occurs (I've just resorted to ignoring it, but it bothers me, and others...) it should be patched. This never happened before the re-design of the friends list.

I had the same problem for 3 days. The green notification disappeared after I red the chat through the phone. It can also be the message from the friend that was blocked - then unblock him, read the message (and answer to his post). Then block again. Support's aware of the problem but "still working on it" as always.
