Any reason to play games at a higher resolution than native?
My monitor's resolution is 1920x1080, but some games allow me to set the resolution higher than my monitor's native resolution. Is there any reason to do this? Is it bad to do this?? Please explain!

I know my AMD card supports something called "Super Resolution", where the game is rendered at a higher resolution, say, 4k. It's then downscaled to native resolution. The end result is like a really nice, really sharp anti-aliasing.

Personally I don't think it's really worth the extra performance demand.

Bad? Like harmful? No. Rendering the game at a higher resolution may have some performance impacts, you're asking the system to do more work. That may or not be an issue if you can already run the game well enough.

As for is there any reason. When you tried it for yourself (right?) did the game look better? Was the performance still good enough for you? Worth the trade off in your opinion?

If the answer to any of those is no, then run the game at native.

the only reason to do that is if you're playing a game that have a terrible anti-aliasing or no anti-aliasing at all.

rendering at a higher resolution then downscaling do remove jaggies and can potentially make a picture look slightly sharper.

some games have supersampling or SSAA that act a bit like this ,
