Dark Souls issue 9/8/22 - "Stopped or undergoing Maintenance"
Hello,

Yesterday I purchased Dark Souls Remastered and while it played fine, it wouldn't connect to the server. I figured I'd wait a day to see if it came up on it's own but even today it's giving me the same message when I attempt to play this morning. Following things I did before writing this post:

1. Deleted from Steam, re-installed it.
2. Shut down computer and restarted it several times.
3. Checked various sites to see if the servers were down and the only thing I can find is what happened in February when there was a virus and/or the servers being taken down in anticipation of Enden Ring. I didn't read all the details but articles came up all over the place around this time. DownDetector.com didn't have any reports of recent issues.
4. Ensured that no VPN's were on.
5. Checked FireWall Settings and Windows is allowing entry but I turned off the Firewall just to try and same issue.
6. Other Steam games work fine in terms of getting onto their network. I played Path of Exile to test.

I really don't know what else it could be at this point. If anyone has any suggestions, I'm all ears. I'd hate to play a game with not being able to participate in the 'Jolly cooperation' as I did on the console versions.

Thanks in Advance. :)

It's always best to ask in the game's forum instead of in a general discussion section. Top right-hand corner of its Steam Store page -> Community Hub -> Discussions.

They took the DS games offline after they found a security issue that could let people take control of your PC using the game's online service.

Wait…that’s not been fixed, yet? It was months ago!?

Has been fixed in Elden Ring, but it seems they can't be bothered to do that for their older titles.

It's only been fixed for DS3, 2 weeks ago.

I...have no words...I can't believe this wasn't solved at the time. These are popular, beloved games where multiplayer is a pretty important chunk of the experience...

I mean it's great that they fixed three but...it's been months.
From Software, they can do whatever and the external PR companies pretending to be gaming websites will praise them anyways. At least 3 is done in 8 months... :bloodstain2: A disgrace really.
