Change the steam region
Good afternoon. I moved to Thailand and I want to change the steam region. I have been living here for 2 months and recently made a local bank card.
First, I made a purchase of the game from a steam account in the currency of the old region, and then I tried to buy the game by paying with a Thailand bank card. But the purchase failed and "An error occurred during the purchase in steam." I contacted the support service and they told me:
"I looked at your account and it seems that you are attempting to use a payment method registered outside your current region.

Please be advised that purchases made through Steam must be made in the region you are physically located and using a payment method associated with a local address. Kindly try an alternate payment method to continue purchasing."
So I don't understand what I need to do. I live in Thailand and I have a card with which I can pay for purchases, but for some reason steam still does not accept it.
Perhaps this is due to the fact that I made a purchase in another currency before and steam thinks that I am still in another region. Then how long should it take for me to be able to buy and change my region?

There's a 90-day cooldown for a region change.

So, yes, when you made a purchase in the other region, the timer reset. It's done to stop people abusing regional pricing.

But I made a purchase from a steam account while in Thailand. I can't top up my account in the same currency. I will be here for another year and I will be able to make purchases only after 3 months?
I have never changed the region before.

The only thing you can do is to talk to Support. If your previous ticket is still open, explain the situation to them and see if they offer a solution.
Contact Steam about this directly. :steamhappy:
That's all the support wrote to me:

"If you have recently moved, you should be able to update your Store Country using an alternate payment method registered to your new location.

Unfortunately, Steam Support cannot adjust your Steam Store Country and you will not be able to use your recent payment method to update your Store Country.

Otherwise, you can look for Steam-compatible CD Keys and/or Steam Wallet Codes at a store that directly serves your region.

As this is all the information we can provide about this purchase restriction, I will be closing this help request.

If you have any other issues with Steam, you are welcome to open a new ticket."

These are just general phrases that don't help in any way in my situation. to use other replenishment options, I need another document. the simplest is a driver's license to a bike or a car.

If that was Support's reply, then you'll have to wait it out because they can't change the auto flag system or you can just buy the games from one of the sites listed here, which will also give you a Steam key: https://isthereanydeal.com/

Note there's part of the system that Support have no control over and they cannot change or alter those settings.

Try going through SETTINGS again, to change your region. Maybe there is something you missed? If this doesn't help, RESETTING YOUR PC's operating system can work wonders. This is a last resort to get rid of STICKY BUGS when all other avenues have been exhausted. See my post: https://steamcommunity.com/discussions/forum/1/3377158861974962724
It's how the system works. Also, it's server side, how would resetting their PC change their location?

thanks for the site, but the prices there are much higher than in Thailand.

maybe it should take some time after that purchase in another currency before I can buy in baht.

Does each purchase in a region reset the timer? Or is just the first one that does?

As I found out, I need a new bank card to change the region on one account. Although I have not found this information anywhere in the steam guides. And even tech support didn't write about it. Which is strange really. It turns out if someone has several children, then each of them needs their own card, lol.

Been having the same issue myself which led me into searching forums (and so far yours was the only one that matched my issue, which helped a lot :] ). Support did mention that I “won't be able to use this credit card to update the store country or complete this purchase.” Which was fine, it’s just that I did try another local payment method, and got the same error, and got the same reply from Support a little later, I figured that I should just wait 90 days just in case that is the cause here.

Have you changed the region before? It's just that this is my first time when I moved to another country and there should be no cooldown.
