[Solved] Download speed is stuck at 3 mb/s
I have a 300+ mbps and 100+ upload speed internet connection which is consistent. But when I download games using epic games, steam and utorrent, they’re stuck at 3 mb/s which should be around 30 mbps. I updated my drivers and downloaded the latest windows update but I’m still facing this issue, I cleared cache, unchecked bandwidth limit and switched to the fastest possible dns servers available in my area yet I still face slow download speeds. Can anyone help me?

I'm having steam download speed issues too. But nobody really want's to help anyone here.

I'm Windows 11, strangely enough when I open Task Manager my download speed increases.

Try this, just have steam open, make sure nothing else is using your harddrive, and open Task Manager.

People will just copy and paste the "clear you download cache" "fix" but that will only work one time.

Steam has a real issue and nobody wants to figure it out.

Again steam can obliterate 1 gbps connections

Your downloads are limited by

1) your cpu
2) your disk io
3) your anti virus killing disk IO performance
4) your ISP

Well it’s fine, I found my solution, now I can get around 18 to 20 mb/s consistently, idk which method worked for me but one might at least help you. So I downloaded the latest windows updates and drivers from intel and windows itself, I went to device manager > network adapters > my internet device > properties > value and changed it into 5 ghz. Around that time I got 18+ mb/s, I just decided to change it back to dual band 802.11 a/b/g. Btw I have two internet devices, one gets around 9 - 10 mb/s and the main one gets around 18 - 20 mb/s when downloading video games. Hope it works out for you buddy!

2.4 GHz, while advertised for 400 MBit/s (Wlan N capability), oftentimes only manages up to 72 MBit/s under normal conditions, especially so in urban areas due to the congestion of many private home networks.

For high-bandwidth connections such as yours, using 5 GHz is advised.

This thread was quite old before the recent post, so we're locking it to prevent confusion.
