Problem viewing videos in full screen
Hi, I hope someone can help me with this please.
I am partially sighted, so when viewing trailers etc on the store pages, I always put them on full screen so that I get an idea of whether my eyes will be able to handle UI, menus etc.
This has always worked fine up until the last few days, I have not been able to get any of those trailers into full screen, when I try, I just get a quarter of the film in the top left quadrant of the screen. I have posted the address of a screenshot below to demonstrate. This only happens on the Steam client. It's fine on the Steam webpage, Youtube, Facebook and other sites.

I'd be very grateful for help with this problem, thanks in advance!

I had the exact same issue crop up within the last few days. No changes have been made to the local machine (no updates, settings changes, etc.).

Whatever the issue is, I think it is related to higher resolution displays. I have a 1440 monitor and looking through some other threads I have seen similar reports.

Going to Steam > Settings > Interface and unchecking "Scale text and icons" makes the videos play properly, but makes the interface too small for my liking. A better solution would be great, so hopefully someone can help us out.

Otherwise I hope they change back whatever they changed to start the issue.

I was having the same issue and just found out an easy fix. Right click on desktop and go into Display Settings. Change the scaling to 100% and see if that fixes it. Worked for me, hope this helps.

Thanks for the tip ForsakenAA, now I can watch the videos in full screen. The downside is that the icons on my laptop are tiny tiny^^

Same issue here - changing scaling in Windows makes Steam videos play full screen properly, but reduces the rest of the WIndows display enough that I will suffer through no full screen videos to avoid having to change it.

I am hoping they can get a fix in that plays nicely with Windows built-in scaling.

same issue here. using 4k resolution.

Same here. Using a 4k tv as a monitor and playing on the couch. Setting scaling to 100% fixes the video-issue, but that's not a viable solution.

Another workaround, use the store in your web browser of choice. You don't need the steam client to buy games on Steam, just log in to the website.
that or use big picture. (especially from the couch)

Sounds like it's a bug that needs to be fixed, if you want to do a proper bug report then install the beta and verify that it's still happening. if it is then follow these instructions: https://steamcommunity.com/groups/SteamClientBeta/discussions/0/864957817327818370/

If you make a report then link it in this thread and maybe vice versa.

Same issue on 1080p 1920x1080 16:9 Tv.

im having the same problem 1080p 1080x1920 all videos appear only in top left corner with video thumbnail as background on the rest of the screen , it i turn off INTERFACE scale texts and icons everything is fine but way to small to read any text ands is not a solution , also my windows 10 pro scaling is set to 125 percent on a 27 inch monitor , i can not change that because then everything on my computer will be way to small for me to read

i guess i dont have a choice other then use Firefox to log into steam its less convenient and annoying

also steam is always extremely laggy on the store page i think i fixed it tho from a NVIDIA post on their forums that said

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Try disabling DirectWrite (Steam -> Settings - > Interface -> Uncheck DirectWrite). DirectWrite is a DirectX API - So eventually your Nvidia Driver thinks you need more GPU power.

Unchecking "Enable GPU accelerated rendering in web views" From "Settings" > "Interface" Solved the problem
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

it seems to have fixed the laggyness of the steam store i also unchecked everything in interface except scale text and icons and notify me of changes to my games

i have to keep scale texts in interfaced settings checked because that is waaaaaay to small to read anything on the screen

so now i think the laggyness of steam store is fixed but now i still have this scaling issue

i have had the laggyness of steam store problem for over a year its been driving me nuts but it appears this fix from a nvidia comment on their forums has fixed that

this scaling issue with videos on the steam store just started happening the past few days after steam updated

im on a 27 inch dell 1080p monitor

i doubt it matters but im on i7 6700k with 1070 card and 16 gigs ram

i just wasted a hour of my life i will never get back

they need to fix this you cant watch any video on the steam store in steam app on windows

it sucks but , im done just disable scale to text in interface in settings things are way to small but at least you can still read them and watch videos and also use the web browser for steam at the same time with no issues

at least my lag problem with the steam store seems to be fixed

this has wasted enuff of my time and seems like the only solution is disable everything in interface " except " notify about changes to my games check that one ,

then use steam app to watch videos and them open browser like firefox to read anything you need , you still can read in steam app meaning not using a browser but its very small but its still doable just annoying ,

really im just gonna keep the steam app like this its very small and hurts my eyes reading this small but it works , and i dont have to use firefox for steam , or ill start open the app and also log in to steam every time i use the firefox browser in my first tab , i always have multiple tabs open anyway and just keep app and browser open , pretty annoying but im done with this , i just lost an hour of my life

the reason using firefox for steam is a pain in the bass is because then you gotta go into steam guard google authentication and all that horsesh$t

55" 4K @200% scaling in Win10.
Till September 2018 everything worked fine. After a Steam update and the Windows "Fall Update" (1809) was released, everything went to :P6:.
It's the 21 century so fix it! :mannausea::pee::Excrement_Item:

I have the same issue as well, this happened probably 2 Steam updates ago. I play my games on my 50" 1080p TV, and I scale it to 125% because everything on the desktop is super tiny and I can't see or read anything from far. Prior to the update, all videos played to any scaling fine, now I'm having the same issue as everyone on this thread, getting partial video being played from the store when viewing game videos, 25% of the video is blacked out. I'm not refering to people posting their YouTube videos, its the videos that each game provide on their Steam product page.

I know I can scale it back to 100% in order to view the product videos in full screen, but if I do that, I won't be able to read anything on Steam, including this thread, from far (my couch). The game works fine, the videos ingame scales fine, everything besides those Steam product videos are getting cut off. After 2-3 months, it is getting really annoying and I don't even bother to watch the videos anymore, which means I won't be purchasing that interest me.

It worked great for years, its been broken for some time now, please fix it as I'm not the only one that have this issue.

Thank you and have a great day.
