Account not found
I'm having trouble accessing my son's account. I had requested a game refund then logged him out to log myself in to Family Share with him. When I tried logging him back in Steam can't find the account.

I tried to lookup the name with the help system and it always says account not found. I even copied the username from the refund request email into the search term and it's not found. But it can find my account.

Then I tried writing steam requesting access to the account without myself logged in so it will refer to his account. I close the browser. Check email and it gives me an access code for the recovery request, but no link to get back to the request, just a link to the general help forum.

The system as it is now is very user unfriendly. I'm a programmer and have found numerous problems with this format. But I'm sure there isn't a good way to submit it so it will be improved.

And I still can't log into his account.

You can do the account recovery here,

Use e-mail as the recovery method if all else fails.

The email method worked. It doesn't make much sense to send the display name in the email as opposed to the account name. Like this case it makes it harder to figure out how to log in.

Also where can I suggest the fixes for the interface that will actually be looked at by Steam employees.

Lastly, I had this issue before. I got a response from Steam but there is nothing under previous Support tickets.

While it might seem daunting, Valve employees tend to read more than write.

The reason why they don't use the account name is obvious. Security. To protect your account.

Making a suggestion to lower security is pointless.

To be fair, I still see purchase and Market related stuff show my account name in emails.

Those all start with
[Dear <account name>]

Whereas, advertising stuff that's new on the Store goes with
[Dear <visible name>]

Agreed, they don't have a clear policy of use one or the other, and then apply it inconsistently.

When I mentioned making a suggestion I was clearly talking about pointing out consistency issues. And then the fix to included a link in an email if I am submitting a help ticket, so I can enter the code found in the email so the help ticket can be submitted in the first place.
