Do Steam games work on a Chromebook?
Just as the title says. I don't know much about Chromebooks but my friend wants to get into playing games. I suggested Steam but I'm not sure if that would actually work and I don't want to buy games for them if they can't even play them.

I'm no expert but did wonder this myself and decided to avoid it for now.
I'd wait on that until Chrome and Steam has upgraded it bit more.
Right now the Steam Deck is the alternative.
Or buy a 2nd hand computer refurbished.

Does Steam work on a Chromebook? The short answer is: yes, it’s possible. The longer answer is that it isn’t a simple process, as the native Steam Chrome OS app is only in Alpha right now, and supported on only a few higher-end Chromebooks. Also, your Chromebook’s internals may not even be able to handle Steam.
Do some googling matey.

Chromebooks will run Steam but not meant to run games.

Is it an ARM based Chromebook, or an Intel CPU based Chromebook?
With the latter, extremely basic games will run, with an ARM based one, no.

Your friend, should they have a good internet connection, could use GeforceNow, a cloud streaming service. There is a free version for testing.
