Mayflash Dolphin bar and Steam
So I have been using the Mayflash Dolphin bar in mode 4. In the last couple of weeks something with Steam must have changed as now Steam is detecting the bar and the Wii remote is working in steam and Retroarch menus. Unfortunately the bar puts 4 wiimotes up no matter how many you have connected and the other 3 keep disappearing from steam controller config and reappearing continuously. If I launch Retroarch with steam closed everything works as it did before, basically no support in menus. I tried the Steam beta and it seamed to alleviate some of the weird stuff like the one Wii remote saying it was player 3 instead of one and the remote stayed constantly detected where as stable everything kept connecting and disconnecting according to Steam. Also Retroarch detects the controller as an Xbox controller instead of Mayflash like when steam is not running. Anyone else noticed this? I assume Valve is working on adding Wii remote support but it seems to have broken something for the Dolphin bar for now.

I just posted to there as well. This just seems to be a steam client issue and how it handles controllers. I couldn't really find a good place for that even though I know Valve has put a ton of work into controller support. If you know a better place for controller support discussions let me know. Thanks.
Having the same issue here
Same thing here with the Steam Deck. Really wish Valve had like some option to disable the issue here. The only way I can play wii games with a wii remote is if I go into desktop mode and exit Steam.

I came here to say the same thing. I use Dolphin directly to play Wii games. As long as Steam is open, none of my inputs get through to Dolphin. When I go into Steam's controller options (to try to turn off whatever it's doing) it shows 3-4 entries for the Nintendo Wii controller. The entries are constantly appearing and disappearing. The only way I can use my Wii controller is to shut down Steam entirely.

I get that Steam wants to be the central hub for controllers, but they have really messed this up. It's completely broken.

Yep it's been reported in steam controller bug reports. Unknown if anyone at valve is aware. Current only workaround is to edit a config file and blacklist the Bluetooth ID. I haven't messed with it yet. Only really got the thing to use on my Steam deck in docked mode so I hope they can fix this.
A link to the thread in the bug report section. I posted a little more detail about the temporary fix in my comment there: https://steamcommunity.com/app/353370/discussions/1/3368153565085848880/
