Can't open Steam Console
I'm having some trouble opening Steam Console. I'm trying to use it to revert an update to a game, however every time I try the methods listed online (i.e. steam:://open/console) my steam window just goes to the store page. No console tab appears at the top, and no other windows open. Any help would be appreciated, thanks!

look what you write (i.e. steam:://open/console) is wrong
correct way is---------- steam://open/console

best way to open console is right click on steam shortcut and add after steam executable
-console
this way every time you open steam you have the console enabled

Hi, I tried this, but it still doesn't show the tab at the top, the path is now
C:\Steam\steam.exe -console, but it still doesn't work.

no you need to fix that, the path should be like this ---> "C:\Steam\steam.exe" -console

I enter that into the target place, but when I hit apply the quotes disappear

open the steam folder, go to steam.exe right click and create a shortcut, then move that shortcut to desktop, edit them whit -console

it has to work if you put it like this

target:
"C:\Steam\Steam.exe" -console

start in:
"C:\Steam"

now i guess you have steam installed in C:\steam
because the default installation is in C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam

Same here, no useful answer until now, Win+R, explorer, web explorer, shortcut, nav, and open. :steamthumbsdown:Nothing works

Win+R paste steam://open/console hit enter should work, in fact all the options above should work, unless you have a permission problem with your windows user.
Have you at least tried making steam run as administrator?

why are you complaining and grumbling like a child, at least I'm helping, if you can't make it work, it's your problem, it's not that my answers are wrong, the answers are correct, if it doesn't work it's because you have another problem like I said before.

With this it should work, but for it to work first you must have the following

  • you have to see the extensions of the files
  • if you don't see the file extensions, enable them
  • If you don't know how, use google.

  1. create a text file
  2. copy and paste the code, save the changes and close the file
  3. now change the txt extension to cmd

CODE
:run :v64_path_steam For /F "Tokens=2* skip=2" %%Q In ('REG QUERY "HKLM\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Valve\Steam" /v "InstallPath"') Do (set _STEAMPATH=%%R) IF NOT DEFINED _STEAMPATH (GOTO v32_path_steam) ELSE (GOTO runs) :v32_path_steam For /F "Tokens=2* skip=2" %%S In ('REG QUERY "HKLM\SOFTWARE\Valve\Steam" /v "InstallPath"') Do (set _STEAMPATH=%%T) :runs "%_STEAMPATH%\steam.exe" -console ENDLOCAL :end exit

Now you can run the file with admin rights, it should work fine.

Hi, sorry for the late reply, without changing anything, for some reason, it eventually started to work a few days later. Thanks!
