Logged in but not signed in?
Its been frustrating me to no end. I just noticed recently that I cannot add stuff to my wishlist, access or look at my wish list, access or look at my inventory, or post in any discussion thread using the Steam client.
To even come here and post THIS message I had to log in to the steamcommunity.com website to do it.

From this website I can access all these things, but logged into my account using the steam client, it keeps telling me to sign it. I can still access my games and friends list but otherwise im not 'signed in'. When I try to click 'sign in' it gives me an error and says it cannot access the steam server.

So far ive tried logging out, going into offline mode and reinstalling.
How can I fix this?

That sounds like the same problem I am having. I found that if I bypass my router and plug directly into my cable modem, then everything on Steam works. I am trying to figure out how to configure my router to fix this. I wrote to Steam Support and said this:

Since about a week ago, I have been having trouble logging into the Steam client.
It shows that I am signed in at the top of the window, but when I go to a game page in the store, it asks me to sign in. When I click to sign in, it tries, then says, "There was an error communicating with the Steam servers. Please try again later." Games won't update or download and games won't launch unless I am in offline mode. Also, I can't get to wish list on the client, but I can on the website, so I know my account is ok.
I worked through the suggestions on the "Troubleshooting Network Connectivity" page in Steam support. When I bypass my router, everything works fine, so the problem must be a router setting. I worked through all the suggestions on the "Using a Router with Steam" page in Steam support, but I have not been able to fix it. I tried Google searches, ports, DNS, settings, resets and restarts, etc. I even tried a WireShark trace, but I am not sure how to read the results.
I am using DD-WRT version "v3.0-r41517 std (11/11/19)" on my router.

They said to come here for help. Can anyone help us with the settings needed for the router to be able to access Steam? Thank you.

OP are you having this issue on the client? If so clear cache and cookies, go into your Steam settings, there will be a tab called web browser, click there and click delete cache and cookies, restart client, and test.

Also if using overlay browser while in game, and fail to load, or say don't have permission, just click the reload button, which should be on by your settings if not go to settings, and check interface, and enable address, and should get a refresh button. Normally refresh fixes the issue. It sometime happen to me, and simple refresh is all it takes. I hope this can resolve your issue.

If issue not resolved post back, and I have you try something else.

To it simple, your router blocking ports, and not allowing protocol to be sent, or received, which is your issue from what you've saying. You need to get your manual, and read how to setup your ports, and not have firewall on the router block certain things if you have it setup to act like a firewall to block a bunch of protocol's, or unless set by the manufacturer.

huh, I never use the steam browser, I should have it disabled. My problem is very much like mjSunde's but I can update and play my games. I'll give the cashe thing a try though.

Not sure why suddenly my router would be blocking steam though, it was fine till probably a week or 2 ago.

Clearing the cashe/cookies didnt work. I want to share a picture to explain better but im bad at that. Here.

See in the top right corner, im signed into my account. Im using steam and can play my games and such. But on this page, I have no access to the wishlist button, and on the middle right side of the screen its asking me to log in. Even though im already signed in to my account.

If I click that sign in button it always gives me an error, no matter how many times I try (It always says try again later so I have)

I still have to try taking my computer off my router and doing it direct to see if that is the problem. Will take a bit more time for me though.

Edit: Its pretty late, ill try that tomarrow.

If what you're saying is that router didn't have this issue before, and you didn't do any changes, nor have recently updated it, then may be something else for you, as for him he say when he doesn't use his router his issue is gone, but when he does it's there, so you may not have the same issue as him.

Could try restarting router, but doubt that fix the issue.

Have you tried refreshing the page, or restarting the client to see if the issue still remains?

This does seem like a cache and cookies issue, but hard to say if that being the case.

Can't guarantee anything if it will resolve your issue, but if you want to take the guess work if the Steam client has issues, could try reinstalling if you want. To do that, head to your Steam folder, move these two folders out of Steam folder as they store your games, .act files, and screenshots, they folders are Steamapp and userdata folder, now uninstall, delete Steam folder if it still remains, you don't want any old files remaining, reinstall, place back the Steamapp and userdata folder, then test if the issue resolved.

Yes, but what we ended up doing was switch back to the router's default software (instead of DD-WRT). We went with that mostly because we didn't understand the DD-WRT settings, but also because that fixed the problem when we were trying things.

My solution is fixed but I ended up formating my computer and reinstalling. Not due to steam, just due to a regular wipe and clean install. I have no problems with steam now.

Late to the party, resolved this problem by going into Internet Explorer and clearing the cookies and what not.

Open IE > Open Internet Options > General Tab > Browsing history > Delete... > Check all the boxes > Click Delete > Click OK and done. That fixed it for me.

did anyone manage to fix this without doing anything crazy like formatting my entire drive or swapping OS

Delete client cache, and cookies, then restart client.

Sometiems pages doesn't load correctly and just need to click reload page button.

If client files the issue, can redownload client files, head to where you install Steam, delete everything in the Steam folder, except for "Steamapps" Folder, and "Steam.exe" file, once done, run "Steam.exe" file, and test.

If you're using 3rd party anti virus / firewall, ensure not causing issue with the client.

I deleted client cache already, uninstalled steam, reinstalled steam with the steam.exe thing you said already.

I haven't changed any of my firewall settings or anti viruses, i use windows defender and always have and never touch my firewall. Are there any other possible fixes?
