Steam Download Speeds

So I've had trouble with download speeds on steam. I have 50mb/sec connection but Steam seems to only be able to download max 3.1mb/sec. I've tried everything I can think of and also other peoples suggestions.
Cut to today downloading the Battlefield V open beta on Origin, and I'm getting speeds between 12 and 20 mb/sec.
What is the deal, steam?

Same ridiculous problem here. I cannot believe it. I've never seen anything so slow. What's even worse is that it is not mentioned anywhere and there is no bloody advice given as to how to speed up the download.

I remember the days of the dial up modem speed, start downloading a few mp3 took a whole night.
We are spoilt.
Your speeds are pretty good why complain?
Your ISP is the source fo your speeds as well.
Maybe your ISP has peak times and is throddling down a bit between certain times. Check your ISP.

Steam is a worldwide Platform with a membership of concurrent 18 million users streaming downloading interacting in some way. Speeds will vary at peak times in one country while other countries are asleep.
In Steam settings >Downloads adjust the throddle.

Maybe Valve decided to allow the rest of their users some of their bandwidth too...

We don't all have those speeds available to us.

I used to have 10+ mbps on steam now i can max at 2.3 (ISP hasn't changed speeds are still the same). I tried downloading Divinity 2 twice today let it download, didn't play anything or use bandwidth on any other device and it took 4 hours and then had to redownload because of an error. Went to GoG downloaded and installed it (same price) in less than 20 mins. Any idea why thats a thing?

Same here, normally my download is 9 MB/s now its always only 3 MB/s with every Game, that on a 125 MBit Internet and on testing everything it resulted that everything is fine on my end.

Edit: I fixed it, in Steam Settings/Download theres a limiter it was set to 3 MB/s and even though any of the the Checkboxes weren't activated Steam still uses that Limit that was set for downloading in Background. I now load with my 9-10 MB/s again !

For me it usually goes at 6-7MByte/s matching my full bandwidth. The most recent shows 6.6Mb peak.
