can my account get banned for redeeming a game key

i won a giveaway of some game key, but i am not sure if i should trust it? is there a possibilty i could get banned? if it's a stolen or generated key or idk??

My advice, would be, stick to keys that legit resellers are giving away.

I've never heard of anyone getting banned for redeeming keys published on the internet. Even game developers have given away keys via online "key dumps" before.

They are "legit resellers" that give away these keys

The subreddit is just there for people to share the news

You have nothing to worry about unless there was a huge CD key dump and they were distributed over the Internet. Worst thing is that it will get revoked anyway

i have like 5 different keys from sites that i really wanna use but i don't wanna take risks..

Oh Valve can tell thats why we keep seeing threads from people complaining about losing games when those keys get revoked.

But yeah thats pretty much the worst Valve will do if the key is bad of course there is also the risk that the key is for a region restricted version and even if it will redeem could have content carved out of it or be near impossible for you to get dlc working for it later.
