Steam crashes when connecting via Steam Link
I'm attempting to create an always on "Steam Machine" to connect via Steam Link. It appears that that everything is working on the system and the drivers are all up to date, however, every time I attempt to connect via Steam link the remote instance of Steam appears to crash. I've attempted from multiple devices.

The system is a VM with a AMD Radeon RX 6500 XT passed through. Ive attempted with multiple configs of varying CPUs/memory. The system has an HDMI dummy plug connected to the GPU and configured to 1920x1080. This is a headless server in a rack and unfortunately cannot be easily connected to a display.

I'm out of ideas. If anyone has any info or advice on how to debug further I'd greatly appreciate it.

I've dug through the logs but cannot find anything of interest. But I'll leave the streaming log here in hopes that it provides so meaningful info:

I don't know if I can help you, but this sounds like fun =D

You are running SteamOS in a Virtual Machine with VirtualBox or some kind of kernel level virtualization? How does your setup look like?
It's a Windows 10 VM running on an Ubuntu 20.04 host. The VM currently has 4 cores and 8 Gib of RAM. The hypervisor is KVM/QEMU and the video card is passed through via virtio.
I couldn't find a solution yet... but I found some resources that might help:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dpXhSrhmUXo
He uses unRaid instead of Ubuntu as a host.

Another one, but very similiar to the first

Today everthing is explained in youtube videos... where you can't search through the content. I hate this new internet xD

Does the Windows 10 VM have the latest graphics drivers installed?

The drivers are up to date. I believe that my VM is correctly configured. I'm able to startup games via VNC. The only time I get an issue is when trying to do Steam link.
Steam may have written a dmp file in C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\dumps when it crashed.
There also may be some other dumps. You could try to search for "*.dmp" in the Steam folder.

There are also some more logs in C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\logs for further error analysis.

After damaging my Steam_data, I kept getting messages that my, 'games data was synchronising'. See my post: https://steamcommunity.com/discussions/forum/1/3439081454539151087/

I don't know whether this relates to the issue OP has. He is running a Win 10 Virtual Maschine in a Ubuntu host environment. And Steam is crashing in the VM whenever he tries to connect via his Steamlink.

I guess the goal is to have smth like a small personal gaming cloud. He's only running one Steam instance with one library on one virtually mounted harddrive. He can run Steam games when he's connecting into the Win 10 VM via VNC and starting them in the VM manually.

I do have dump files. What can I do with them? Is there a way to look at them without installing the "Windows SDK" and using dumpchk?
