DirectX Runtime issue
So, I just updated to Windows 11. DirectX 12 is already installed, but when I try to start the game Stray, I get a message telling me that I need to install DirectX Runtime. I've verified that it's installed and working properly. What is the problem here?

Stray starts in DirectX 11 by default.

Maybe you should install DX11 too =D

And that's a no. Installed DirectX 11, and still get the same message.

Hmmm... too bad =(
You can try to add some launch options:

-d3d11 will start the game with DirectX 11
-dx12 will start the game with DirectX 12

Are you running the game on a Laptop or Desktop PC?
Laptop might have issues choosing the correct graphics card for the game.

I'm on a PC, and I just discovered something - I (idiotically) have not installed Stray on this new computer - I only installed Steam. However, I can't find a way to download it to THIS machine.

Click "install" in your Steam library? Or do you mean transfering the game files from one machine to another?

When I go to my library, it tells me that "Stray is already in your Steam library," and there is no option other than "Play." There is no option to install or to download. This is crazy, I would think that Steam can scan my local files and figure that out?

Right click the game -> Manage -> Browse local files
There you should see the files.
You can also try to repair the files or reinstall the game.

I've done that. There ARE no local files on the machine, only a web shortcut that was probably installed when I installed Steam yesterday. The computer brand new as of Friday, and I have not yet installed the game. That's the issue - I cannot find an option anywhere to redownload.

@ArgOn - thanks for your help, I figured it out. I had to Uninstall the game from my library to clear all references to it in the Steam folder. As soon as I did that, the option to download again appeared. Again, thanks for trying to help me figure this out.

And... I'm still getting a DirectX Runtime error. It is installed and running, so I can't figure this crap out.

So the game booted and you already played it. And while playing you get the error and the game crashes?
Can you post the exact error message?

No, no. When I click "Play," the game does not start, I just get this error:
