[BUG] Cannot disable Steam Chat Notifications

In Steam/Settings/Friends, I have ALL of the sound notifications turned off. Including "When any Friend comes online".

However, every time a friend comes online, I hear the sound. This is an issue for me because I have some friends with crappy connections who come online every few minutes.

I have tried enabling/disabling the notifications. I have tried restarting Steam.

What am I doing wrong?

I suggest you report the beta bug in the beta forum. And, unless you actually want to deal with bugs, quit the beta.

Then enable all notificatioma, have Steam save the settings and then disable the notifications you want.

cannot one use the volumemixer to get rid of any steamsounds? find the speakersymbol (normally in the right bottom), click on it and there you go...

What notification are you having issues with? You can disable notifications for when a friend joins a game, a friend comes online, when you receive a direct chat message and when you receive a chat room message.

You can also control when the window flashes from receiving a message, your options are Always, Only when minimizes, and Never.

I'm having the same issue as well with even more terrible problems. Unselecting those options not disabling the sound nor notification. Only flash chat window option works. And I'm not in beta.

I'm having this same issue. I can turn all the notifications off, save it. Works fine until i restart my pc and steam.
This is insanely annoying as I know a few developers and they are constantly closing & re-opening their games.

Nope, steam refuse to help, which is their usual level of support really.

This is just a temporary solution but, you can go to C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\friends and delete message.wav . It doesn't really disable the notification sound but it just preventing it playing since there is no audio file to play :P
