Old Steam Skin & Old Steam Icon!
I personally despise everything about the new look. The Blue tints everywhere, the squarer design, and worst of all, the brighter grey chat window making the white text harder to read :/

Rant at page 17, in which I flipped out after the store update: http://steamcommunity.com/discussions/forum/0/35221031536968917/#p17

Credits to Mugsworth and Max for creating and maintaining the skins!

Old UI with Smaller Text and Darker Background!

There are isntructions on how to increase text size in the link itself, for those who don't like the old original size!

Replacing the New Steam Icon with the Old One!

I have not found a way to replace the tray icon, but I replaced the normal icon!

{LINK REMOVED}

Simply right click the steam at the bottom, then right click the steam in the list itself, then change icon!

Replacing the web browser (Chrome/Firefox) version of steam!

NEW VERSION: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=442092873

My thoughts on all of this

First it started with them unnecessarily increasing the chat's font size without giving us a font option, having to resort to skinning it smaller.

Then they remove /me, instead of just making it optional, default turned off, if someone fell for scams that told them to turn it on, they deserve to lose their money.

Then they force all of this horrendous blue on us, making EVERYTHING harder to read, and painful on the eyes, steam itself looks WAY too flat now, which I personally despise, hence why I hate Windows 8/10. AND they changed the tray icon for steam, and now it doesn't change to show when you're downloading games, so unless you have a steam window open, you never know if you're downloading something because it doesn't change to notify you.

Then they changed the profile lights, and ingame text colours to be ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ neon which is NOT easy on the eyes, yet again!

They make these blue which are way too hard on the eyes to read, some text on some of the pages are horrendously harder to read thanks to it. Also don't forget the right click-steam tray menu (for friends, games, etc) which they made the text in it SMALLER for no ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ reason!

And before you ask, I tried a whole week of using it, which ended up only giving me extreme eye-strain, and disgust with how horrible everything looks, I'm sorry, I tried.

I swear, I am so sick of Valve right now, making the worst of decisions. And the worst part is, not even skins can fix the web pages without extremely extensive webpage modding.

If it wasn't for steam skins, I would actually consider quitting steam. (Like any of you care, but just wanted to say that to prove my point) :cfacepalm:

Thank goodness for Pixel Vision.

Those gradients that Valve added are awfully ugly.
Actually I wouldn't even call them gradients, more like "graynbows".

And somehow they think they had a winner with that big picture button. That's one of the first things that should have changed.
There are so many things wrong with the UI, all I can do anymore is shake my head.
They hardly listen to anyone but themselves anyhow.

It's like, ♥♥♥♥, if only I didn't have so many games on this POS.

Thank you SOOO much. The GameBanana skin was working and making everything the old skin for everything but the icons in the taskbar and system tray. This fixed the taskbar icon. Now the only thing that's new is the system tray and it's so small and out of the way that it probably won't bother me. You are a lifesaver.

You don't even need to download a new icon, you can just use the one from the steam uninstaller, which is still the old icon. i'm downloading it anyway just in case though.
Any way to revert to the old style?
I absolutly hate this new style, is there anyway to go back to the old one?
well, i cant belive someone actually like that old crap style, but well, people have diffrent taste.

You might check some skins out. I think there are some that look very simlar to old one.
EDIT: Found that on steam forums, maybe thats what are you looking for:

There's quite a lot of people that prefer the old style over the new one, actually.

Thanks Mugsworth! It's great to have the old skin again! :D

I adjusted the fontsize to 16 because it just fits me better.
Was wondering one thing though. Is row space, if that's the correct word, adjustable?
The spacing between lines in the chat window.
With 16 it just looks pretty wide. Wondering if it's possible to adjust it somewhere in the code?
Quick question:

What changes cannot be fixed by using a skin? From what I've skimmed, it sounds like the only one is active downloads/synching not changing the icon.

Because I generally use a skin. I am right now; I'm using Invert v2.90. I used to use halinads until it was no longer updated, and then a while thereafter too. I actually prefer a light background. Maybe I should try this new default skin just to see what it's like...

The skin also does not fix the small font change Valve did. Vlve changed the font from one type of arial to the default arial font.

I don't think row space can be changed, but I could be wrong.
I haven't noticed a font difference...well if I squint right I think I see one. What exactly was the change?

And did the blue/green borders on online/in-game friends' avatars get thinner? It was better thicker, but not something I can't just import from another skin...

The font changed from a type of Arial (Don't know which type) to the default Arial.

And yes, they indeed get thinner. They're still thick in this discussion as you can see.

Does anyone know if changing the icon of the exe file using resource hacker is against regulations or the terms of service by steam? I just want the old icon but I don't want to put my account at risk for doing this.

It is against regulations and can indeed get you banned, sadly.

That is very disappointing indeed. Ah well. Thanks for the quick response.
