Pop-up ads appearing in Steam client
Hello, this is a weird thing that didn't happen to me on Steam before.
We all know ads, they appears almost on every website, and i don't have a problem with that.
But now those pop-up ads are appearing while i'm using the Steam client, even while i'm ingame!
My antivirus couldn't detect any virus or problem, so i'm not sure what's wrong in my case.
If anyone could help me, I'd really appreciate it. :CatStarla:
Thanks in advance! :hawtdawgman:

Care to post a pic of the ad itself?

Malwarebytes works well if it is malware.

i didn't take a screenshot of it because i close it as soon as i see it, since it may download some unwanted programs if i don't do that

Some source games have servers that advertise on the MOTD, where are the ads in your steam clients? I would try to get a screenshot of it because if its malware, then you already have to remove malware, so just upload some screenshots, and try running malwarebytes/avast

Definitely scan with MalwareBytes. They have very good detection rates for things that shouldn't be on your PC.

And if the scan results are clean, there is a possibility that your router itself is infected.

Do you use an ad-blocker on your Internet browser? (like AdBlock or uBlock Origin?)

again, i couldn't take a screenshot because i close them as fast as i can
but i think it's the kind of ads that tells you that you have won something and need to do a quick login on a website; which is similar to the phishing site that are used in Rocket League and other games that includes loot boxes.

i'll give malwarebytes a try, thx
and i'm adblock, but i don't think that using it on the browser has something to do with the steam client

Looking at your name history, seems like you might be infected.

They don't have to. They could have access to your account.

have access to my account? those are well known csgo crate opening sites, not some random sites
also, i used to use them to get daily free items, not to gamble or anything
if they had access to my account, i'd have lost it and lost my inventory months ago

Just about all those "well known" sites have had issues with fake login screens phishing all your account info including your codes.

don't get me wrong, but i'm not a kid who uses the internet for the first time
if those sites weren't legit, then i wouldn't have access to my account right now
lets not get far from my main problem, it has been more than 1 hour and no ads appeared.
i tried malwarebytes and it didn't detect anything, but with no ads appearing....

There have been many users the past 6 months flooding the forums about the fake login screens on their fav skin/case site and having their accounts hijacked in some way.

well i'm sure i'm not like them, i won't fall for something like "OMG CLAIM A ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ AND FREE $40 RIGHT NOW IF YOU REDEEM THAT CODE IN THIS SITE".
I used only the most known and popular websites, not a random site.
I stopped using them anyway, so i think the problem isn't from there.

The steam client is just a browser

Malware on your system finds any browser window and injects ads into them directly

you're effectely infected with a program that has full reign of your entire computer

That didn't get onto your computer via magic. You had to have installed it.
