Best settings for non-gaming laptop to play 3D games..
like The House of Da Vinci, and The Room series?

Hi All, I hope someone can give me directions on how to get the best out of my new laptop for playing my mechanical type puzzles, and may other games eventually.

What I have is an HP Pavilion and I use it for more than gaming as I do have an HP Pavilion Desktop where I play most of my games. Here's the full description from Amazon where I got it:

"2022 HP Pavilion 17.3-inch IPS FHD Laptop, Intel Quad Core i5-1135G7 (Beats i7-1065G7,upto 4.2GHz), Iris Xe Graphics, 16GB RAM, 512GB PCIe SSD,Backlit Keyboard, WiFi 5,Webcam, Windows 11+HubxcelCables "

I figured out how to set a couple settings in the game itself (The House of Da Vinci 2) and it helped. I set Resolution to 1600 x 900 and the Textures to Low. I'm not saying this is correct, it's just what I tried. I'm open to any feedback, and I respect people's input opinions. My issue was mainly, a choppy, jerky-like screen and mouse, not smooth as on my gaming computer. It's not high-end either, for gaming, but I'll put a link to it in case someone wants to know. Thank you in advance for any help/direction:

"HP Pavilion Gaming Desktop Computer, AMD Ryzen 3 2200G, AMD Radeon RX 550, 8GB RAM, 1TB hard drive, Windows 10"

1) lower the resolution as low as possible
2) lower all graphical settings to the lowest

That's it. That's your options. There is no 'magic' that will make your games run at 1080p with a graphics cards that is the equivalent of a potato

Even if you do frequently intel graphics drivers are so universally bad that no amount of tweaking will make games run anyway

Turn off power saving in the Windows settings too.

pretty much what Satoru said , lower the resolution , lower the graphic setting.

pick games with low system requirements.

sometime you can find youtube channels that test games with popular but weak PC components , like you search the name of the game and then the name of your gpu.

Ok, but are the smaller numbers the higher resolution or the other way around?

Also, do you mean "set on games" or on the laptop?

cordially, Miss Potato Head ;)

Ok, I don't think I have that one turned on but I will check, thanks much!

Yeah, that Intel GPU is going to screw you every time when it comes to gaming. The CPU and the RAM aren't bad but they're being held back by the lack of a proper GPU.

You could try asking the community about these games, there might be something you can do.

There are some great older puzzle and adventure games you should look into though. I recommend the puzzle section on GOG.

I'll keep this in mind and so far, these are the only games I own. I didn't know enough about the power needed to play games when I bought it, but if I can just enjoy a few games on it that would be great ;)

Thank you much :)

Thank you, I'll look at GOG as well. I've been a bit addicted lately on my Room series, then HOD was pretty good, really good in some parts. Just got this laptop this last Monday.

I doubt that the Iris Xe Graphics will run most games beyond 1280x720 in resolution.

resolution is simply the quantity of pixels display on the screen.

like with 1080P which is 1920 x 1080 meaning 1920 pixels width and 1080 pixels in height.

1280x720 is 50% less pixels then 1080P so the peformaces should be better but the picture will be more blurry , especially if the game is displayed on a large screen and you're sitting close to it.

1280x720 is half the quantity of pixels then 1080P so the peformaces should be better but the picture will be more blurry , especially if the game is displayed on a large screen and you're sitting close to it.
Ok, taking notes here ;)

well at the same time it's different with each and every single games , I have a gt 1030 which is a bit faster then the Intel Xe graphics and even then I don't expect everything to run fine at 1080P.

Mines the i5, and again, I didn't really know enough to maybe spend a bit more, but the game I'm testing is already working way better. I bought the i5 because it was performing on something (I can't remember now) better that the i7. That probably wasn't to do with games but I just got the best one I could afford ;) I do love it, especially the back lit keyboard. Just getting used to 11 has been a little hard, but not bad at all :)

Nothings ever been perfect with my computers over the years, and if something does work great, it gets changed :steamhappy:

I remember Intel has this website which show list of games they tested and recommended settings. https://gameplay.intel.com/games

there is a spot where you can search for your cpu model and it's gonna give games you can play on that cpu and it's integrated graphics.
