Are you allowed to Link to Steam Shop Pages ?
Hi,

i get that it's a thing in the discussion threads to recommend games BUT

if you have a website or discord server:

is it allowed to link to steam product shop pages to recommend games OR to kinda abuse it as info page for the game ?

So:

Should One generally refrain from linking to the steam app shop if its not within the Steam Discussion Boards ?

Plz:

Do not answer something like: just do it who cares...

I don't want no troubles ya no...

On Steam, you can link to store pages just fine.
If you are advertising another services store page, depends on what service/site and if it is on topic.

I mean as in pvt Websites for Fun to "abuse steam shop pages as Info Pages"

bc i don't wanne make gaming Videos or provide a Gallery ( Slider )

no middle / Affiliate Links

just a normal image link leading to the steam store page of a game so ppL can check it out

As long as it is relevant to the topic, like a user asking for recommendations and is not advertising, yes.

You see by the confusion of the answers, that it is very unusual to be worried about this. I have never heard of a case, be it related to Steam or not, that a website had attempted to prevent or would have any base to prevent being linked on a different site.
As long as it is not related to malicious slander (which could possibly lead to troubles, no matter if it includes a link or not), Steam and the publishers of the games, you intend to link, will only be happy about it.

yeah i no and i agree but if ya doing a serious project ( for the long(er) run ) ppL will come at ya with:

"well technically you can't do this and have to blabla..."

just wanted to know if this is generally a bad idea...

Imo it seems it's perfectly legal ( "okay" ) to do as long as it doesn't contain advertisement ( eco intent ) or malicious and intentionally harmful functions

Also it should have something to do with what you are writing ( posting ) about

For who may be interested: If ya using Screenshots showing violent Stuff u may need to have an extra Security Feature and or Message(s) build in with your Projects.

Im not a lawyer; Is just what i believe applies to me, my project / country where im risiding

*just wanted to add that i personally will just link to the offical publishers Game Page ( en )

so thx for answering :)

A spontanous web search led me to this here:

https://fairuse.stanford.edu/overview/website-permissions/linking/

Deep Linking.
Despite some inconsistencies in early case law, it is generally agreed that deep-linking (a link that bypasses a website’s home page) is not copyright infringement[...]

Most other results seem to agree, that linking to a subdomain, as you intend, is legal under all legislations.

Might be helpful to add a disclaimer, that there is no connection between you and the recommended games.

You can link whatever page that outside of Steam discussion forums there no rules saying you can't link any of it.

It's only when you're trying to do uncalled for advertise like self promote, or promoting on behalf of someone on the main steam discussion forums that not related to the topic, or sub forum.
