Make sure that Steam is shut down properly before shutting down your PC to avoid data corruption which would invalidate your download aka would have to restart.
If you just shut down your PC and allow Windows to force close Steam you will have issues and will probably have to redownload everything again.
How do I shut down steam properly than clicking the "X"?
I wanna know, I'm very dumb.
That doesn't close the application.
Top left of the app
Click Steam
Click Exit
Thank you!
Wait, do I need to manually pause the download or is it automatic?
Not automatic, manual only.
Oh.
Yes, you can just shut down the PC and continue it when you start up the PC.
You don't need to manually pause the download or shut down Steam before shutting off the PC.
Windows will shut down programs in proper manner when you select the shut down option.
The people telling you to pause it and manually shut down Steam are just spreading useless fear.
I think I need help, my download progress became "content file locked" how do I fix this?
First time I ever hear Steam saying something like that.
My best guess is that whatever folder you started to download the game too is locked by Windows.
Did you download the game to the main C drive with Window on? If so you might want to switch to another harddrive or SSD.
I didn't do anything! Steam suddenly closed itself and it wasn't responding
and I thought that it would be a good idea to restart my PC and when I relaunch steam, I saw my download having that error.
