Why is the "Other" Tab taking so much space?

I read somewhere that the "Other" tab is non-steam related files, but I keep that SSD only for games, and I am positive it has no other files other than the steam library. So why is "Other" taking up so much space and how do I free some?

if the steam library folder is taking up over 400 GB of space, then it would be also using the "other tab" since all of the tabs of used data combines is around 429 GB. maybe you should check what folders/files are you using so much space, outside of games, dlc, and workshop content of course.

The majority of the space is taken up by the "common" folder

Why not use something like WinDirStat to get an easy graphical representation of what files&folders actually take up all that space?

Keep in mind that the OTHER tab is everything that is NOT Steam.

Because steam default location also included game titles, they did not split steam game lib in the past to other location outside steam install location.
