What happens if I buy the same game on steam and Uplay?
Just out of curosity. What would happen if I were to buy Ac2 on Uplay and say later down the line I'd pick it up on steam for some reason.

So what I'm gathering is that you'll have 2 separate versions of the game, the uplay version and the steam version, and I imagine that means both versions would have separate achievements and dlc. For example, I got AC Odyssey free a while back for uplay but if I bought it on steam to keep my library in one convenient spot all my progress would be gone. Unfortunate.
I brought farcry 4 on steam and it linked to ubisoft but I can't install it from ubisoft because there tyrants. Whenever I go to install from ubisoft it starts steam up to install the game. Basic form of harassment to see if I'll purchase it from Ubisoft.

Thats because you bought it on one platform and not buy a license that you can use on multiple. Nothing unusual about that. Unless games get released on a license that allows access via multiple platforms it will always be this way.

When I buy an origin game on steam I can use the key to get it also on origin or ea. Fact is I brought a license to play that game. Shouldn't matter what platform. If ubisoft insists I also have it in my ubisoft account I should be able to run it solely from ubisoft. As it is I have to run two clients instead of one.

Complain to Ubisoft.

You bought an Ubisoft game on Steam, which means it needs Steam to run in addition to Ubisoft Connect, and that is somehow UBISOFT's fault? Uh, what?

Yes because Ubisoft has the requirement you need to be running their platform to play their games, no matter where you purchased it from. How many games can you by on Steam that do NOT require another platform to be ran at the same time? A large majority run fine with just Steam active meaning it's the games dev/pub that has it as a requirement not Steam. Thus in this case it's Ubisoft

Yep. sure is.. they should be honorable like origin and let you install it from Ubisoft without steam so you don't have to bog down you're system with two clients.

I would but they don't exactly have a contact me button in their client software.

Yes they do, go to the game page in the Uplay library and click support on the bottom left. That'll take you to the page with the contact option.

Thanks for that. I Didn't realise I had to go through the game then onto the web then through a bunch of stuff but I did it any way and sent them a message. lets see how they respond. oh wait they can't because a little tiny message at the bottom says * Chat is currently unavailable. Please choose another support method. Only there is no other support method.

what do you mean.. what would happen?
you'd own the game on both Uplay and Steam. That is what would happen.

Are you wondering if your computer will blow up if you do this?
Are you wondering if your save files will be the same?
Are you wondering if Uplay achievements will auto unlock Steam achievements?
Are you wondering if you will get banned?

Like why are you asking "what happens"?
You don't need to be smart about it. I would like to know the same thing I purchased The Division 2 the day it released I have over 200 hours and I'm level 40. I would love to play it on my steam deck but I don't want to have to start from the beginning again 3 years later. Will my save carry over if I purchase it on Steam just to play it on my Steam deck?

What reason? I would like to know, thanks.
The reason I would like to do it is because I want to play The Division 2 on my steam deck. It's been updated on Steam to do so but it doesn't appear that Ubisoft connect has updated it. I'm willing to pay the $9 that it cost now to play it on my Steam deck. But I have over 200 hours and I'm level 40 I do not want to start from the beginning.

Did you try this? Im really curious :), I have the same with the Division 2, would love to add it to steam, but don't want to lose all my progress. I can't find an answer to this.
