What happens if I buy the same game on steam and Uplay?
Just out of curosity. What would happen if I were to buy Ac2 on Uplay and say later down the line I'd pick it up on steam for some reason.

what do you mean.. what would happen?
you'd own the game on both Uplay and Steam. That is what would happen.

Are you wondering if your computer will blow up if you do this?
Are you wondering if your save files will be the same?
Are you wondering if Uplay achievements will auto unlock Steam achievements?
Are you wondering if you will get banned?

Like why are you asking "what happens"?

Yeah like would Uplay just crash since their are two copies of the same game.

No. It would show two copies of the game, the Steam one which will still require Steam even if you launch it through Ubisoft Connect, and the other one.

Do you really think Ubisoft didn't already encounter such a scenario and cover it already?

Was unsure. Needed to double check with people more firmiliar to Uplay than me but thx nonetheless.

If you buy the same game twice, let's say in Uplay n Steam, you'll see another version of the same game on your uplay account.

That will be your Uplay version, and another one steam version( both side by side in ur Uplay launcher ) Both have their own DRM, tho do note that, even if u have your ubi game bought thru steam u will need uplay to launch, but not for the one you bought theu uplay.

*You can't play the steam version without uplay but can play uplay version without steam.

No, you'd just have 2 games the same and even if you installed them both they'd be in separate locations. I have The Witcher 3 on both GOG and Steam. GOG version is just the base game purchased on disc when released. Steam version is GoTY edition purchased on offer.

Don't know bout GOG, but for uplay, I've my main R6S account bought both on Steam n uplay. The saves/account progression do carry over if you linked steam in Uplay. You just have to download which one you wish you download.

I've 2 R6S slots in my uplay. One shows play button ( steam purchase ), One shows Download ( Uplay purchase ).

The play/download is due to which version of the game you have downloaded. If you had both downloaded and installed you'd see play on both platforms. If you hit play on Steam you'd be playing the Steam version, achievements, saves and other Steam stuff. If you hit play on Uplay you'd get all the Uplay related stuff.

Ik those stuffs, but you won't be starting over from lvl 0 on your uplay version if you already played on the steam version linked with that account.

Why would you want to do this ?
pike Apr 5, 2022 @ 4:45pm
you would be wasting money, it's still going to launch via uplay,

Let's say, you lost your phone and couldn't play a ubi game, and you've to wait a week to sort stuffs out with steam support. Which happened to me and I'd to wait a week to remove my old phone, phone number to get this account back. So I bought siege on uplay just to play the game with my friends, also so I don't have to start from lvl 0.

Ik my scenerio is a rare case but I think it counts.

Be the game is likely storing it's save game to the exact same place. Which will scre up achievements on both systems because when you get them on 1 you're save game will be past that point when it's used on the other version. If not interested in achievements it's a none issue. If you to prevent that use Cloud saves only if possible....may need to keep deleting local save files to force each client to use a cloud save

You're right on that part, even tho it stores almost everything. But achievements, and skins get reset and you've to manually equipe them.
