Activated a key by accident, any way to undo it?
Hello, I bought a Borderlands 2 GOTY edition for my girlfriend from a store, wanted to check if the key did work and thought that by adding the product on steam it'd just tell me the name of the game but not activate it instantly, I already own the GOTY edition of the game, done so since 2019, is there any way to undo this?

Once a key is used it cannot be re-used.

I am well aware of this, is there any way for me to contact Steam support and have them remove the "extra" copy of the game and have it moved to a different steam account?

No.

Did it actually activate? Redeeming keys don't give you extra copies. If you already own everything the key provides, it should tell you with an error message that the account already owns the product.

If it did activate then the key must have granted something you didn't already have. It will ignore the already owned pieces and grant you access to the new stuff. In this regard the key is used and no longer valid.

It did, I just tried activating it on a different account of mine and it didn't work, plus when I activated it it did give me the print message thing, I checked the dlcs and everything I owned was from 2019 so there's no way it could of have activated something I didnt own already, Is there really no way for me to contact Steam support regarding this? If there's not I can just buy another key, they aren't really expensive but would prefer to just get that one moved to her account...

Just checked my account's product activation history and the key did in fact register, thing is it registered the key in a single bundle with every dlc and product in it, whereas back in 2019 when I bought the game it registered every product (as in the base game and dlcs) by separate listings, guess the key is lost unless I could get to contact Steam regarding this :/

Steam support won't unregister the key. It's burned for good.

Just opened a ticket but don't even know if I did it the right way, had to issue the ticket as a "I can't find the product in my library" problem, only thing I can do is hope for the best now.

I am aware of this, what I'm trying to do is have the product moved to a different steam account

... which won't happen either as that would actually require unredeeming the license and redeeming it on another account.

Given that game keys are often bought outside Steam, unless you can track the origins and provide a transcript you bought it on Steam, then I think you're screwed.

Cannot be done.

Once you redeem the key that's it.

Steam doesn't sell keys.
OP bought the key from another site.

There is nothing preventing you from asking Support but there's been no evidence so far that they will intervene. Since it's a key activation, Steam does not offer sales assistance.

It's possible there is something in the bundle that the key activated that isn't listed. Bundles can have extras that you might not be aware of. The fact that it did not error out means there was at least one thing the key provided that you did not already have.

Products cannot be transferred between accounts.

Seriously, don't "test" keys. Just redeem them to the account you intend them for.

Makes sense. When you activate a key that has just a bit more content (extra piece of DLC, for example), it will register the whole key and only add the extra content.

The key is used, there is nothing to be "transfered" to another account to begin with. Plus Steam Support does not transfer games to other accounts, at all.
