Switch games from HDD to SSD
Hey guys, I’ve been installing all my games in my HDD in order to free as much space possible in the SSD (that contains the operating system and that type of stuff).

So, I can (for example) install a game in the SSD to make it load quicker and remove loading screens. When I finish the game I can uninstalled it and re-install it in the HDD.

That’s ok for games with cloud saves in steam, but I don’t want to lose my progress in games like VMBL and even DS3 that doesn’t support cloud save. Is there a way I can switch the files from drive to drive safely? (Maybe even cut and paste the folders, I’m just unsure if it’s safe to do this).

Thanks in advance

You dont need to switch game saves. Game saves are always in the same location for nearly every game, regardless of installation location. Nearly every game stores their save games in your "My Documents" folder on the disc with your main Windows installation.

Games recognize those save games automatically, no matter where they are installed.
I switch games all the time between my SDD and my archive HDD and i dont have Steam Cloud enabled at all.
Never had a problem with save games.

Thanks for the reply, helped a lot. How do you switch games, by a simple cut-paste or uninstalling and then re-installing?

Also, what stuff do you keep in your folder? I know that if you uninstall a game the game keeps a folder, but when a game doesn't supports cloud save then the save state is also deleted

The easiest way is done through the Steam client.
Create a new Steam library folder on your SSD in Steam --> Settings --> Downloads if you haven't done that already.
Then just rightclick the game in your library, select Properties, go to the local files tab and select the new library location. You can move the game that way, without reinstalling or losing anything. Steam does everything for you.
