Account hacked & $120 Gift card bought
Hello,

I was looking at my email and thankfully saw that my email address was changed (I'm guessing someone hacked into my email) and was able to get my card information, im not sure how. But they bought a $120 gift card through amazon.

That's pretty much all she wrote but for the past like hour and a half i was desperately trying to change my email again. For some reason when i was trying to change my email every time it was saying it was sending me a confirmation code I was not getting anything via email. I ended up having to use a different email address.

My question, is there anything I can do from here besides contact my bank? Can steam somehow refund me?

I wish there was an easier way to actually contact steam but im having trouble, idk if its because im not text savvy or what, but this blows.

Also, how were they able to buy an amazon gift card? Is my card information available on Steam?

Thanks,

Jules

How can Steam refund you and what does this have to do with Valve? If your email was compromised then it has to be dealt with the provider and if an unathorised Amazon purchase was made then it has to be investigated and resolved by them. Your Steam account is not linked to Amazon in any way and Valve do not deal with external retail purchases.

They wouldn't have been able to get your card information from Steam either way because like any other reputable site there is no way to see full card details of a saved card.

You need to run a full scan with windows defender and with malware bytes, for them to get access to both your email and your credit card details it's very possible you have a keylogger or something, meaning you changing your details on the infected device won't do anything.

Either way this really doesn't have anything to do with Steam.

Your description of events are confusing.

Accessed your email but got you card details?

1. what has that got to do with Steam?
2. How would anyone get access to your card information from your email?
what company was used to buy the giftcard? Cause that reads like bought a giftcard through amazon in which case your Amazon account was compromised. Take it up with Amazon.

That means 2 things were compromised. So I'm suspecting you infected your computer with malware, keylogger.

First thing to do is secure your account. Scan the system and change your passwords using a secure device. Phone.
Scan for Malware/virus https://www.malwarebytes.com/mwb-download/

Other things to keep in mind once you've secured your devices:

-NEVER reuse passwords, especially on anything sensitive like an email or anything with payment, assume any service where you reuse a password can be compromised at any time.

-Never store sensitive information such as credit card details somewhere unsecure like in a Google doc, if you did and they got access to your email they'd also have access to anything you have saved in your google docs.

-start using two factor authentication on your sensitive accounts such as google and Amazon.
