Steam Mobile Authenticator Query
Hi all, i created a new account and enabled steam guard via email. Coming up on 15 days, I realised I needed Steam Mobile Authenticator on to trade.

My question is, if after the 15 days have passed and I enable Steam Mobile Authenticator on my account that has already been guarded by email, can I trade without any restrictions? Thank you.

So by right, after the 15 days, when I choose to add the Steam Mobile Authenticator, I should be able to trade without any holds/restrictions right?
I still don't understand why you don't want to enable it now. But fine, let's go with enabling it later.

If you enable it after 15 days, then you'll get NO NEW RESTRICTIONS. That means if the only restriction you're having right now is one that ends in 15 days, you won't have any restrictions then.

Still, would you enlighten me on why you don't want to enable it now?

If you want to trade without restrictions, don't change your Steam guard settings at all.
If you want to trade without cool downs, enable the mobile authenticator RIGHT NOW and wait.

Thank you for your response but I think you misunderstood my question. I created a new account and just enabled steam guard via mail. I am looking to trade after the 15 days are up next week. I found out that I needed the mobile authenticator to do so. So my question would be whether I can trade immediately after enabling the authenticator or have to wait 7 days.

Steam has said this when adding the mobile authenticator but I just wanted to make sure, thanks

"If your account was already protected by Steam Guard via email, you will have no new restrictions from using trading or the Community Market"

You don't need the mobile authenticator to trade, you need ANY Steam guard to trade. So Steam guard over email works for trading, as well as Steam guard over mobile authenticator.
It's just that the email Steam guard entails trade holds, mobile authenticator Steam guard doesn't. Still, whoever says you need the mobile authenticator to trade, lies.

Anyway, I suggest you go with the message which you just posted yourself

Alright so there will be not any trade holds right? cause I already had steam guard via email for 15 days

Trade holds will no longer occur if the Steam Mobile Authenticator is active for at least seven consecutive days.
In a trade, both parties must meet this requirement, or there will be a hold.

Yeap gotcha, but I only have steam guard via email for 15 days next week so I am wondering if there will be any trade holds if I add the mobile authenticator after

Okay but then im confused cause this is from steam

"Mobile Authenticator Added

A Steam Guard Mobile Authenticator provides additional security for your account. Adding an authenticator does not immediately remove existing restrictions. Trades created within the first 7 days of adding the authenticator will still have up to a 15 day trade hold. This allows your items to still be protected and gives you time to recover your account if a malicious actor were to ever add an authenticator to your account.

If your account was already protected by Steam Guard via email, you will have no new restrictions from using trading or the Community Market. If your account was not protected by Steam Guard via email or mobile app, you will be restricted from using trading and the Community Market for 15 days because Steam Guard has been recently enabled."

So even if I add the authenticator after the 15 days on steam guard via email, there should not be any trade holds right?

If you add it RIGHT NOW, there will be no holds. Why do you want to wait 15 days?
Do you have trades on hold right now? If so, you need to understand that enabling the mobile authenticator doesn't influence existing trades at all, only new ones.

If you feel confused by the two paragraphs you just quoted, I'd help to help you if you said what exactly you find so confusing about them. Merely quoting them doesn't help me understand what you're confused about.

It has not been 15 days yet haha, its coming up on the 12th of Jan, so I am waiting till then to add the Mobile Authenticator. Just wanted to confirm as I am slightly paranoid XD I have no trades existing , but plan to trade as soon as 15 days ends.

I am confused about the 15 day hold during the first 7 days when adding the authenticator and if that restriction applies after having steam guard via email for 15 days already

Is there any reason why you don't want to enable the mobile authenticator RIGHT NOW, knowing there won't be any new restrictions?

I am afraid that if I enable it now, it will extend to next week today instead of next wednesday, when my 15 days are up. I am not entirely sure whether if I enable the authenticator via mobile, the restriction period would not extend.

Pro tip: it's better to be wary (not even afraid) of things you understand. Because when you're being afraid of stuff you've no idea needs being wary of or not, that's a heap crap ton of brain space & mental effort wasted, you could otherwise spend on enjoying things.

Also, please don't doublepost. You can post several things at once. Watch me:

I can explain you things, but for that, I need to know what you don't understand.
