Save game transfer
I have a Hades save file in the computer. So, I'm planning to move my Hades save files from the computer to the laptop using the save files in My Documents. I want to retrieve the achievements and progress I got.

So, if I transfer the save file from the computer to laptop, will the steam recognize the achievements and progress that I unlocked in the computer save file if I open it in the laptop? You know, when I open and play the game, the steam will pop the achievements.

I know about the thing going online so steam will automatically save to its cloud but I have different progress so it might overwrite the data.

If there's a difference between local and cloud Steam will ask you which one you want.

You have to understand a few things here.

Achievements are on your account, they are not in the savefile at all.

If you use an existing savefile with a different account, the game may or may not activate all or some of the achievements. That depends on the game only.

And yes, if Steam detects a conflict between the cloud save and the local one, it will ask you. And the savefile you didn't choose will be gone for good. There is no "both".

I know it'll be different scenario on different account but the save files are both played in the same steam account. The only difference is one progress is different on the other.

Hades uses Steam cloud. The only way to have different progress on different computers is then having disabled Steam cloud.

With Steam cloud out of the picture, the case is clear: copy the save from the source computer to the target computer (or from the source system account to the target system account, either way from source to target) and start the game on the target. Your progress will transfer, obviously, because of saves. As for achievements, you can't have two different sets of achievements on the same Steam account.

@Padoru: Do keep in mind that Steam accounts are not the same as Windows accounts. Trying to use multiple Steam accounts on a single Windows account will almost guarantee that saves are "transferred" automatically, since few games actually differentiate by Steam account -- they'll just store them somewhere in your Windows profile, regardless of Steam account.

The recommendation has always been to give users their own Windows accounts, even in families, just to keep things like settings, browser bookmarks etc. separate. However, it seems to be common to not do that, and people often get surprised when they notice that changing Steam accounts will not magically separate their save states...
