Steam cloud saves
Hi Guys,

I am planning to get a new hard drive soon as my hard drive is slowly degrading. I have a quick question with all my saved games.

If I install Steam on the new hard drive, download steam and all the relevant games, will it download the saves games or do I manually need to backup the steam app folder?

I see steam always synchronising with the cloud but does this save my progress onto the cloud?

Any help/suggestions would be useful.

Thank you

It depends on the game, not every games use steam cloud (particularly older games) but most do.

Also saves are not typically stored in steamapps. They are usually somewhere in documents and sometimes in Appdata inside your user folder.

Hi Buddy, this is a silly question but how do you get to remote storage? I went to accounts but cannot find a way to get to this. I can only click on your link to get to remote storage.

Thank you

Copy the document folder content to new computer, and the few game saves that are stored in other places.
Cloud saves come from the cloud when you start the game, but not all games use it.

Thank you. I finally found it. They don't make things easy to find. {The unexplored area of Steam}.

It is in Support page, your account, scroll down to uploaded content and select/click on steam cloud.

Pretty easy actually if you're thinking in hierarchical categories. Which is the best way of thinking when it comes to huge heaps of things.

Thank you. I will copy the document folder. In fact I will be using a proper backup software - Acronis True Image to make a full backup.

Yes. Not many people venture or know about these things. I did not know I had heaps of things in Steam. I have been on steam for many years now and never explored this area. :steamhappy:

Hierarchical storage is easier to explore, than one flat long list of options, you gotta admit :p
