Maybe try logging into old non-Steam accounts you may have made around the same time to see if those show your old email address?
Like if you made a Blizzard/World of Warcraft account around that time. Or if you maybe signed up for some Forum, or other website around that time. Maybe you still know the login for those things... and maybe they will share the same email.
My other suggestion is hypnosis.
Hire a hypno-therapist and see if they can put you in a relaxed/meditative state where you might better remember your old email address.
Or pray.
You could also try asking old-friends you had around the time you made your Steam account if they remember any old email addresses you had. Maybe they have it in their Contact Books/info about you.
