I and other cant help you with no error code msg.

start the game.exe up from steam install games, to see if that trigger a game crash like vc++ or something like that.

or use windows event viewer why a app dont work, even dxdiag make a mini log at end of files even that can help next help here if you even provide abit info.

ps.
keep in mind every game has own support, its game own devs job to help not us.
this is a user forum and not support.

and we assume you have game requirement and laptop is in full performance if its a laptop , dont let us get you in own mistake with underpower resources and settings, we will bite your head of as we say today. (well maybe not bite but say users own problem for doing it. or laptop user issue have a nice day. )

No errors. Like all the Steam game icons need an app to open. Far as computer requirements... my PC exceeds them and was running the games from the start menu without issue - but not now. I have to go the Steam Library directly.
so for example... I have NWNEE and was running just fine from the start menu. Now its looking for an app instead of starting the game. Unfortunately I just pointed the start icon to the actual nwmain.exe and I get errors. Also all the other Start Icons are now trying to use the nwmain.exe as well. sigh...

Also I can launch the the games directly from the executable. Just the start menu and desktop icons no longer work. I've also uninstalled a game and reinstalled. Though I selected to create a icons on the start menu and desktop, no Icons where created.

I think you may need to restore the default icon behavior through the properties menu of your start taskbar's notification area.

But it may help if you tell us what operating system you have. So someone can guide you through it.

Have you move or lost disk content or use a external disk, that could explan a thing or two.

Lost desktop icon or not working, they are seen as content not there or been moved or disk content is back even lost chain with that content.

Use steam storage disk management to see and ID if all is on same disk if you have multi steam lib,
never mind I found the issue. The Start Menu > Programs > Steam icons need a browser to open with. For some reason a Steam update or icon corruption ??? may have contributed to the Icons being changed. I updated the icons to open in Browser and fixed the issue.

Windows 10 and have not moved anything.
